A gracious gift from alumna, Dorothy J. Sanders, who passed away on May 9, 2015, will mean additional scholarships for students at the College of Architecture and Design.  Dorothy “Dottie” Sanders, graduated from UT in 1957 with a degree in interior design.  For many years, she ran her own business in Memphis, Dottie Sanders Interior Designs, and specialized in historical restoration.  She was also passionate about the university and in helping students.  In 1987, she endowed the Dottie Sanders School of Architecture and Design Scholarship, and after her passing, the university received an additional estate gift from the generous Ms. Sanders.  This generosity will provide more than $14,000 annually for scholarships for incoming freshmen at the College of Architecture and Design, and the college extends its deep appreciation for this support.

In addition to endowing scholarships, Dottie Sanders also gave time to the college by serving on its board of advisors and to the university by supporting the UT Alumni Association.  Professionally, Sanders was a member of the American Society of Interior Designers and the Tennessee Society of Interior Designers, serving as president of TSID.  She also was a member of the Germantown Garden Club, and during her years in Memphis, she was an active member of the Germantown Church of Christ.
