Please see this to information sheet prepare for the 2017 Career Day on February 24.

Note that design sheets and CVs are due FEBRUARY 6th. See below for upload instructions.  This deadline is for anyone who wants their resumes and design sheets to be viewed in advance by participating firms.  A number of firms specifically request to review resumes and design sheets ahead of Career Day so that they may schedule interviews directly with students.  Other firms opt to visit with students on a first-come, first-serve basis during Career Day.  If you do not have your work uploaded by 5 PM on Feb 6th, then it will not be available to participating firms.  This does not, however, prevent you from attending Career Day.  Everyone is welcome.  Come with your design sheets and/or your full portfolio and start introducing yourselves!

  • How do you handle stress and pressure?
  • What do you find are the most difficult decisions to make?
  • What are you passionate about?
  • What interests you about this job?
  • Are you overqualified for this job?
  • Why are you the best person for this job?
  • What challenges are you looking for in a position?

What is a “Design Sheet?”:

Design Sheets – or as they are sometimes called, work samples, work sheets, project sheets, excerpts, leave-behinds – are significantly edited versions of projects found in your portfolio.  Each sheet (or spread) should showcase a few key drawings / renderings / details / diagrams of the project, leaving the employer wanting to see more.  Your selection of edited projects should give the employer a clear idea of your skill sets (e.g. excellent detailer; great rendering skills, clear line drawings, etc.) and design capabilities.  Your sheets should be formatted with your name, contact info and the title of each project clearly visible. The format of your design sheet (work samples, project sheets, excerpts, leave-behinds) should have the same graphic identity as your comprehensive portfolio (e.g. color scheme, fonts, etc.) and can use images/drawings from the same collection of content (e.g. the perspective section is selected for use in the design sheets and the portfolio).

Consider these sheets as a teaser/trailer to your larger collection of work (a.k.a. your comprehensive portfolio).  Employers will spend approximately 30-45 seconds when reviewing your documents (resume, design sheets, cover letter) These sheets are there to convince them to keep you in the “yes, let’s interview them” pile!

Below are a couple of samples pulled from the KBAS archives.  These were employment inquiries we’ve received over the years.  Some are stronger than others – but in general they offer some insight into what you should be preparing for February 6th upload to the server.  Take note that some of the samples combine letter, resume and work samples into one PDF.  We still want you to upload individual PDFs for all three of those components.

Sample #1 – excellent example.

Sample #2 – this is a very good example of clear, distinct projects.

Sample #3 – an example showing only three projects.  Lots of white space.

Sample #4 – one page per project.  Clear format. Very straightforward.

Sample #5 – this shows what a 2-sheet project, a 1-sheet project, and a 2-projects/sheet looks like.

Sample #6 – a little more lengthy than the others, but clear and manageable.
