When filling out your application to UT Knoxville, select which degree you’re most interested in for your first choice major: Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Science in Interior Architecture, or Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design.  

For first-year students, we only admit architecture or interior architecture applicants to the fall semester. Graphic design applicants can select spring or fall entry terms.

We strongly encourage you to apply by the university’s early-action deadline of November 1. First-year applications are due by December 15.

External Transfers 

If you are attending a different institution and are interested in transferring to UT for one of our programs, you must complete the general university application. When filling out your application, select which degree you’re most interested in for your first choice major: Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design, or Bachelor of Science in Interior Architecture. A college GPA of 3.0 or higher is required for consideration. 

We encourage you to attend one of our virtual information sessions; these are curated specifically for transfer students and will review information about the application process, important deadlines, and give you an opportunity to ask any questions you have.

Internal Transfers 

Current UT students interested in transferring into our college are required to attend one of our virtual information sessions prior to applying to the program. Upon completion of a session, you will be given access to an internal application form. A UT GPA of 2.5 or higher is required for consideration. 

Architecture and interior architecture external transfer applicants can select either a summer or a fall start only. Graphic design applicants can select spring or fall entry. For the greatest chance for consideration, we encourage you to attend an information session in the fall and submit your application by December 15.

The final deadline for internal transfer applications is March 15. 

You will be formally notified by email regarding your admission status and term of entry: summer or fall. Upon acceptance, your major will officially change, and you may set up an advising appointment in our Center for Student Development to discuss your new academic plan.

Transfer Student Information Session 

All internal transfer students are required to attend an information session prior to applying to any of our programs. External transfer applicants are also encouraged to attend. This presentation will offer invaluable insight into the process of applying to our college and what to expect if admitted.

Dual Degree Programs  

Earn two degrees in six years! Undergraduate students in our college are able to enroll in a dual degree program following the start of their semester by visiting our Center for Student Development.

Graduate Applicants  

Candidates interested in applying for either master’s program must apply through the UT Graduate Application.

Master of Architecture 

The School of Architecture offers two tracks, for students with or without an architecture education, leading to a professional Master of Architecture.

The 2G track admits students looking to complete a 4+2 pathway, including those holding a BS in architecture from a NAAB-accredited institution. This program typically takes two years to complete, and it starts in August. Prospective candidates should apply for fall enrollment.

The 3G track admits students from all backgrounds including design, architecture, engineering, sciences, as well as humanities and the arts. This program typically takes three-and-a-half years to complete, and it begins in July. Prospective candidates should apply for summer second-session enrollment.

Master of Landscape Architecture 

The School of Landscape Architecture offers two pathways towards achieving a Master of Landscape Architecture.

The two-year pathway is designed for candidates with a background in landscape design or related fields such as architecture, urban design, and interior design. The three-year program caters to students with no previous study or degree in landscape architecture.

Dual Master’s Degree 

Our schools offer an opportunity for graduate students to receive a dual Master of Architecture and Master of Landscape Architecture degree while at UT.
