Downtown Studio First Friday: Stroud Watson
May 2, 2014 @ 6:00 pm - May 3, 2014 @ 7:30 pm
Join us, Friday, May 2 at the Downtown Studio Gallery for a reception featuring the life work of Stroud Watson.
Watson served as the urban design adviser to the City of Chattanooga, professor of architecture of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and founder and director of the Urban Design Center, a joint effort of the City, UT and the Lyndhurst Foundation. The Center incorporated the work of students, which later became the catalyst for seminal projects like the Tennessee Riverpark Master Plan and the Miller Park District Guidelines. Watson’s work in downtown Chattanooga led to numerous awards, including the Thomas Jefferson Award for Public Architecture (2001) and Excellence in Architecture National Honor Award (1989) from the American Institute of Architects, as well as the Distinguished Professor of Architecture Award from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (1997), and Outstanding Planning Implementation Award from the American Planning Association (1998).
