Lecture: Jorge Otero-Pailos

No costJorge Otero-Pailos, Director and Professor of Historic Preservation at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture in New York, will lecture on Monday, Sept. 25, at 5:30 p.m. The lecture will be held in the Art + Architecture Building’s McCarty Auditorium, 1715 Volunteer Boulevard. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Otero-Pailos works at the intersection of art, architecture and preservation. His work centers on the transition of people and the objects they choose to take along with them from one phase in life to another or from one historical period to the next.
His work has been commissioned and exhibited at the Artangel Trust, the 53rd Venice Art Biennial, Victoria and Albert Museum, Louis Vuitton Museum La Galerie, Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and more.
In addition to his work at Columbia University, Otero-Pailos is the founder and editor of the journal Future Anterior; co-editor of Experimental Preservation (2016); and author of Architecture’s Historical Turn (2010).
Otero-Pailos has received awards from the 2012 UNESCO Eminent Professional Award, the American Institute of Architects, Kress Foundation, Graham Foundation, Fitch Foundation and Canadian Center for Architecture.
This lecture is endowed by the Robert B. Church Memorial Lecture Endowment and co-sponsored by AIA East Tennessee.
All lectures begin at 5:30 p.m. in Rm. 109/McCarty Auditorium in the Art + Architecture Building, 1715 Volunteer Blvd., unless otherwise noted. All are welcome.
