Lecture: Lola Sheppard
January 28, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
No CostJoin us for a public lecture, titled “Other Environments, Other Agencies,” by Lola Sheppard, University of Waterloo and Lateral Office, on Monday, January 28, 2019. Sheppard will discuss how the role of architecture is challenged as the conditions of economic, environmental and social instability become the norm. With new models of practice, new typologies of buildings and new pairings of program or infrastructure, the work argues that architecture is an agent of “otherness.” Through a series of research and design project, Sheppard will discuss how architecture achieves “otherness” by creating new interfaces with environments and giving new forms of design agency across a range of territories, from remote regions to dense urban environments, to global networks of resources.
This lecture is funded by the Robert B. Church Memorial Lecture fund. Unless otherwise noted, lectures begin at 5:30 p.m. in Rm. 109/McCarty Auditorium in the Art + Architecture Building, 1715 Volunteer Blvd. All are welcome.
