MAX_min Kicks Off

The highly anticipated MAX_min design competition—a unique annual event that gives students from all three schools the chance to design together in teams, begins Jan. 12, 5:30 p.m., in the atrium. At the kickoff, students will form their teams, and for the following five days, they will engage in intense design thinking.

Prize money and bragging rights are on the line….

Studio will end early on Jan. 13 to give teams time to work on their projects, and all work must be submitted to the DPC by 11 a.m. on Jan. 17. The jury will review projects and announce winners on Jan. 20, 5:30 p.m. Cash prizes are given for the winning teams. Students should watch for more details beginning Jan. 9.

Established in honor of the School of Architecture’s former director, Max Robinson, the MAX_minimum Design Competition is a recurring annual competition meant to encourage the greatest impact on the design environment with the least possible means. The aim of the student projects is to leverage the potential of design thinking to creatively impact the College of Architecture and Design, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and the state of Tennessee. First amongst the project goals, however, is the development of conceptual and pragmatic design excellence within the College of Architecture and Design’s student body.
