Racism Untaught Workshop for Faculty, Staff
October 4, 2021 @ 11:45 am - 1:30 pm
No costFaculty and staff in the college are invited to attend a virtual workshop, Racism Untaught, on Oct. 4, 11:45 a.m.-1:30 p.m. ET. Completion of the pre-workshop activity is not required to attend the workshop, which is led by Lisa Mercer, University of Illinois, and Terresa Moses, University of Minnesota.
What you’ll learn during this interactive experience…
During the workshop, you will complete an exercise on power and privilege to understand your position in the context of racism and how we each perpetuate and uphold systems of oppression that shape the everyday lives of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.
To help us understand our ability to create cultural change, participants will be divided into groups to work through a design challenge and discuss how Racialized Design shows up in levels of oppression.
How to connect to the workshop…
The Racism Untaught workshop will take place via Zoom. A password is required, which was e-mailed from Milagros Zingoni and Jean Muether to all faculty and staff on Sept. 28 and again on Oct. 1. Please check your e-mail or contact Muether at jmuether@utk.edu for assistance.
