September 27, 2014 @ 9:00 am - 8:00 pm
FreeJoin the College of Architecture and Design in its collaboration with Section Cut, a collection of “the most savvy design professionals on the planet” who will be offering digital skills workshops to work at the cutting edge in the allied design fields.
There will be 8 workshops this year, 4 in the Fall and 4 in the Spring. The workshops will occur on a Friday evening, Saturday, and part of Sunday. The first two workshops will take place on September 19-21 and September 26-28. There are limited seats in each workshop, so we urge you to sign up by going to http://sectioncut.com/utk/. Use the password scutk to access the sign up form.
workshop 2: translation
Tectonics and Assemblage:
Where workshop 1 dwelled upon the translation from the physical to digital realm, workshop 2 will focus on the reversal: the translation from digital to physical. Through the workshop students will learn methods of translating digital forms into the physical world, as well as the underlying physical, physiological, philosophical, and morphological concepts underlying various methods of building.
about
The second in our series of college-wide Digital Deployment Workshops will be held September 26-28. The workshops are intended to give students a risk-free time and space to experiment with the digital processes that will increasing define the practice of architecture and design in the near and foreseeable future.
If you feel like software operations, digital form finding, and working with digital output machines (like the 3D printer, CNC tools, etc) are “blind spots” or “soft spots” in what you can bring to a career in design, these workshops are for you.
The workshop will kick off with a lecture given by Section Cut, the team of young designers offering the workshops, at 5:30 in room 111. This lecture is open to anyone in the College regardless of their plans to participate formally in the workshop. The lecture will give context and exposure to digital work flow and contemporary work in the discipline that matters to those thinking about digital work flows.
