Section Cut Workshop IV: Digital Deployment

04_AGENDA: NARRATIVE // ATMOSPHERE

With this workshop you’ll develop a new skill for your ‘designer tool belt’. This weekend, Section Cut invites you to consider how the design process can be informed by focusing on atmosphere, narrative, and the all-powerful section! Be prepared to get weird and use your words.
Together, we’ll carefully craft detailed sections for various scenes and programs.  We’ll use ‘characters’ as drivers in the design process, and orchestrate spatial experience through a series of atmospheric collages and written words. Today we’ll short-circuit the design process with a few of my favorite devices: scenes, characters, sections, and vignettes.

5:30 pm – 6:00 pm

Meet quickly at the end of studio to get oriented for the weekend.

Evening Assignment:
Choose a Program that you are currently working with in studio, or a ‘scene’ you’d like to design. Identify three essential characters to that scene, and write a haiku describing their agenda, mood, or spatial needs. Characters can be People, Animals, or Objects.
