March 5, 2015 Leading Architectural Photographer Hélène Binet to Present UT General Shale Lecture, March 9
Hélène Binet, one of the world’s leading architectural photographers, will be the General Shale Lecturer for the College of Architecture and Design Robert B. Church III Memorial Lecture Series at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Binet will present “Composing Space 24 Bartholomew Villas” at 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 9, in McCarty Auditorium of the Art and Architecture Building, 1715 Volunteer Blvd. The event, sponsored by General Shale Brick, is free and open to the public. A reception will precede the event.
For over 25 years, Binet has photographed both contemporary and historical architecture. She often follows the course of contemporary architecture from construction through completion but also has photographed the work of many past architects including Alvar Aalto, Geoffrey Bawa and Sverre Fehn. Recently, Binet has directed her attention to photography of landscape architecture.
Binet’s work is published in a range of books and has been shown in national and international exhibitions. She has received numerous awards, including the 2015 Julius Shulman Institute Excellence in Photography Award.
The Robert B. Church III Memorial Lecture Series addresses history, theory and practice in the design disciplines. It brings nationally and internationally prominent practitioners and scholars of the built environment and design arts.
The General Shale Lecturer was established in the early 1990s. It seeks to further the public’s awareness and appreciation of architecture and design.
