March 8, 2021 TAAST 2021 Commemorates 50th Anniversary
The 50th anniversary of TAAST (The Annual All-College Spring Thing) takes place March 13-21, 2021. TAAST is a student-organized week of activities for everyone in the college, and this year, the public is invited.
The theme of TAAST 2021, “In the Clouds,” pays homage to the virtual environment being experienced throughout 2020. The celebration is focusing on cross-disciplinary design, taking the best of the past 50 years and presenting many opportunities for students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends to unify through learning and celebrating design across our four disciplines: Architecture, Interior Architecture, Graphic Design and Landscape Architecture.
Events for students include volunteer activities on March 13 at the Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum, and others are in the works. Throughout the week, workshops for students will be offered by student organizations. Watch for details.
A traditional event, the Banner Drop, will take place on Sunday, March 14. Watch for this exciting moment on the college’s Instagram, which will be taken over by students during TAAST week.
The public is invited to attend the TAAST lecture series March 15-19 including these:
- March 15: Illona Gaynor, designer, artist and writer
- March 16: Shelter Collective, interior and product design
- March 17: PEG, landscape and architecture firm
- March 18: Isometric Studio, graphic design and architecture firm
- March 19: Watch for details about a cross-disciplinary discussion
All lectures begin at 6:30 p.m. ET. Watch for links to join the lectures.
To mark the 50th anniversary, each student in the college can receive a collection of special items representing the origins and elements of TAAST. Read e-mails for information.
We salute student co-chairs Aubrey Bader, Kari Essary and Maggie Redding, as well as students Jua Im and Delaney O’Brien for organizing TAAST 2021, and Julie Beckman, director of the Center for Student Development and TAAST advisor, for her leadership.
