April 20, 2014 UT Landscape Architecture Student Named to National Board

Cameron Rodman, a graduate student at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the American Society of Landscape Architects as the 2014-2015 national student representative.

Rodman will serve as the liaison between landscape architecture students, ASLA student chapters and the organization’s leadership. His role is to foster a positive relationship between students and professionals who share a mutual passion and enthusiasm for landscape architecture.

Rodman said he is excited to bring national attention to the young UT Landscape Architecture Program, which began in 2008 and was accredited in 2012.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to help connect landscape architecture students across the country with professionals in our field and become leaders in public and private design,” Rodman said. “People are looking to landscape architects to solve a variety of problems related to climate change, urban development, ecologic resiliency and more. I see it as my job to help my peers mature and develop into leaders who are seen as competent and effective in designing solutions.”

Rodman will serve through May 2015. He will be an ex officio member of the ASLA Emerging Professionals Committee and Landscape Architecture Magazine Editorial Advisory Committee. He will report on student issues at midyear and annual meetings, host student chapter presidents at the annual conference and administer the society’s social media outlets.

“Engaging and interacting with leaders in our profession is a great opportunity,” he said. “Traveling will also expose me to a variety of design regions, which will help me better understand and work alongside the students I represent. I really am honored to be elected into this position. This is going to be fun.”
