Black History Month during February 2021 was planned by students in the college and School of Art to address issues such as social justice, systemic racism and diversity and inclusion in design. Through this, students strengthened efforts to establish a new culture to unite all disciplines in the Art + Architecture Building, elevate the contributions of Black designers in the curriculum and honor creators of color in February and beyond.

All faculty, staff and students in the college as well as in the School of Art were invited to participate in Black History Month activities, including the design competition and a panel discussion on Feb. 25. Learn more about Black History Month 2021.

The design competition offered four prompts related to systemic racism, social justice and diversity and inclusion in design. To enrich the celebration and inspiration, the prompts were framed by themes using facts about Black historical figures.
