Master of Architecture 3G

The Graduate Architecture Program at Tennessee challenges students to do more than envision buildings. We explore and investigate issues of technology, material culture, and political economy alongside a commitment to histories and theories of the built environment. We prepare graduate students to be all-purpose intellectuals, willing to and able to engage in cultural production and agency.

The Master of Architecture 3G program is designed for students who come from a variety of backgrounds, including those with no previous formal study in architecture or a degree from a non-accredited architecture program.

Please join us for our upcoming Open House for prospective M.Arch students. This event will be on-campus on Friday, October 25. More information is available here.

This program begins in July—prospective students should apply for Summer second-session enrollment.

Recommended pre-requisites: Humanities (12 Hours), Physics (1 course), Pre-calculus (1 course).

Studio and Beyond 

You'll benefit from the collaborative atmosphere of our open design studios, where you'll have your own workstation and high-res monitor provided by the college. But we go well beyond the studio into the built environment to understand need and how it can be transformed through architecture.

Are you ready? Immersive Experience

In May 2019, the first-year M.Arch 3G students will have a new 3 credit-hour design course. This 3 week design charette will include a field trip to Marfa, Texas, home of the Chinati Foundation and the work of American Artist, Donald Judd. This otherwise unassuming West Texas desert town has some of the most stunning creative work set in an amazing landscape. The field work we do there will give us an amazing experience of the environment and how design can respond spatially.
